How to Set Up Multiple Monitors / Fix Monitors not Turning On

Most people at Wyatt Seal have some type of dual monitor, or three monitor setup. Whether that be using a desktop, or a laptop.
-With a laptop, you usually have a docking station you plug the extra monitors into, and then plug the docking station into the laptop
-With a desktop, you are able to plug the monitors directly into the back of the computer.

If you ever want to change the configuration, or are having a problem with one of the monitors, there are a few quick things you can do in order to get it working right again.

For those who are just wanting to change their configuration, skip down the article to step 3.

If your monitors aren't turning on with your laptop/docking station first try these steps:
1. Make sure that the cables are properly plugged in.
  1. This being the monitor's HDMI cable, follow the cord to make sure it is properly plugged into the monitor in the back, and also properly plugged into the docking station.
  2. Also check the monitors power cable, follow the cord to make sure it is properly plugged into the monitor in the back, and also properly plugged into the outlet going into your extension cable/wall. (If you are using an extension cable or anything of the sort, be sure that is powered on as well.)

2. If step 1 didn't work, try and power cycle the equipment. Leave the docking station/monitor unplugged for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in.

3. If power cycling did not help, RIGHT-CLICK on the windows home screen, and open up Display Settings

Once inside your display settings, you will be met with a screen like this. Here you can see the configuration of the monitors.

I personally only use 2 monitors, one being a laptop, the other being a monitor plugged in through the docking station.

On this screen you should still be able to see all of your monitors that are plugged in. 1 2 or 3. If you do not see those, try hitting detect to see if Windows can pick it up.

If your monitors are all displayed in the display settings now, you can change the configuration and change your main monitor.

      - You are able to click and drag the monitors around in order to mirror how they are setup on your desk. You can even put them on top of one another.

      - If you scroll further down the Display Settings page, you will see options like this.

Here you can change the resolution of your monitor's, how they are oriented, and even change the main display of the monitor.
      - If you are wanting to change the main display of your monitor from Monitor 1 to Monitor 2, highlight Monitor 2 and come down to the bottom and click "Make this            my main display"

It is important, though, that for multiple displays, that they are extended to each display.
      - This can fix monitor's not turning on, or the main screen being mirrored to the extra monitors

On the drop down menu under Multiple Displays, be sure that you select each extra monitor, and the setting is set to Extend These Displays, or Extend to This Display

If after all of this the monitors still aren't coming on, this could be due to a faulty cable or a graphics driver that needs updating.
