Due to the pandemic, some users are working from home more often than not. And with our new Office@Hand system, users should be able to take their Polycom Phone home with them. Incase your router is too far away from your desk at home, you may need to have your Polycom phone on the WiFi in order for it to work. There are a few requirements for this to happen though:
1. You will need a compatible AC Adapter that matches with the phone. Since the Polycom Phones are PoE (Power Over Ethernet) they get their power from the blue ethernet cable we use to give our phones internet. So we will need to give the phone a different power source, since having ethernet wouldn't be an option at this point.
2. You will need a OBIWiFi Wireless Adapter. This is what will let your phone get on the WiFi at your home:
3. You must have the correct Polycom Phone model. Most users have a model number of VVX 500. Unfortunately, to our knowledge at the moment, the VVX 500 models are not compatible with WiFi.
A VVX 501 model is compatible however.
If you have a VVX 500 and absolutely need to be on the WiFi, then you will have to get with Scott about acquiring the 501 model. (There is a sticker located on the back of the phone that will tell you your model number, it is also in Settings > Status > Platform > Phone on you Polycom device)
Once you have all of these, the setup is very straight forward.
1. Plug the OBIWiFi adapter into the USB port located in the back of the phone. The port is not located where the AC and ethernet cable ports are, it is higher up on the back of the phone.
- Once plugged in with the device powered on, it should automatically prompt you to scan for WiFis in the area, if it doesn't you can see below.
2. (Apologies for the picture quality) Touch the home button on the sidebar of the phone, and then tap 'Settings'
Then tap 'Basic'
Scroll to the bottom and select 'WiFi'
On this screen, you will see the WiFi network you are connected too. You can also Scan for other networks in the area. If you are setting this up for the first time, select Scan.
After scanning, select your household WiFi, plug in the password, and you will be good to go.
