It is not uncommon for your OneDrive and Shares folder to have sync issues, as there are thousands of files uploaded or edited every week.
There are several issues that could be happening within your OneDrive if you are unable to open files inside of Shares, or you notice that your folder may not be as up to date as others.
Please follow the below troubleshooting steps to try and help remedy these issues:
1. Ensure that your OneDrive is signed in properly:
Sometimes, you may be signed out of OneDrive unintentionally. This could be caused by a multitude of reasons, however the most common reason is that you recently changed your Windows password (which automatically syncs with your O365 password). If this is the case, you will be signed out of ALL O365 PRODUCTS, and be prompted to enter your new password and verify yourself via MFA.
You can tell that this is happening if you check your OneDrive symbol in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen and you see a grayed out OneDrive cloud:
If you hover over this icon, it will say that you are not signed into OneDrive, and you will be prompted to enter your credentials again to continue syncing.
2. Pause and Resume OneDrive
Sometimes your sync may not be "caught up" properly with the live version of Shares. The ultimate step in fixing this issue would be to resync the entire OneDrive directly from our
SharePoint site. However, before doing this time-consuming task, we first should double-check that a quick pause and resume of your OneDrive sync will not fix the issue.
To pause your OneDrive, simply RIGHT-CLICK the OneDrive cloud icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, and select the amount of time you would like to Pause your sync:
Once paused, your OneDrive symbol will change:
To resume syncing, simply follow the same steps as above and click "Resume Syncing". Your OneDrive will then sign back in and attempt to restart the sync.
